Hyperhidrosis

Abnormal increase in sweat secretion by the skin. Hyperhidrosis can be generalised or localised. Generalised forms usually have no known cause. However, they are sometimes a sign of a hormonal (hyperthyroidism, diabetes) or infectious (tuberculosis, brucellosis) disease or a lesion of the hypothalamus. Localised forms are exacerbated by stress and heat: hyperhidrosis of the armpits mainly affects women; palmoplantar hyperhidrosis, affecting the palms of the hands and soles of the feet, begins at puberty and diminishes after the age of 40.
