Calcaneitis is the inflammation that affects the area where the tendons located in the sole of the foot attach, underneath the heel (calcaneus). It causes pain or swelling, which the patient feels while walking. Additionally, an X-ray may reveal the presence of a calcaneal spur (a small bony protrusion on the underside of the heel).
